Thank you. I am humbled by this result. For the seven years I’ve lived in Lethbridge, I’ve studied its municipal politics from both data and anecdotal perspectives. Despite all that study, I had no idea whether my bid for council would succeed.
Throughout this campaign I’ve been so intent on getting my message out that I’ve sometimes neglected to thank my forum hosts, my fellow candidates, and my volunteers as often as I should. Let me do that now: thank you to Elect Lethbridge, Lethbridge Accountability, SACPA, the DBRZ, Chamber of Commerce, the CHBA, the ULSU and the Lethbridge Library for actively making ours a participatory democracy at the municipal level.
Tonight I have to thank those of you who got out and voted for electing me to represent you on Lethbridge City Council. I promise I’ll do my best to represent you. While winning championships, knocking down walls, questioning the answers, working as part of a team, and being accountable to you.
Ruth, Sam, Renee, Jeff, Joe, Ryan, Sarah – I couldn’t have done it without you.
Blaine, I won’t forget you opened your print shop for me in the middle of the night on the eve of nomination day and I look forward to working with you on Council.
With five incumbents and four newbies, this is going to be an experienced, dynamic council with enough continuity to make for a smooth transition. I can’t wait to get started.
